Welcome to the virtual Workshop “Wireless Powered Communications of Tomorrow” organized in the framework of the bilateral research project between the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje and the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, and funded by the Alexander von Humboldt foundation.

The workshop will be held on September 9 2022 on the Zoom videoconferencing platform.

Topic of interest

The research of WPCN merges the theories of wireless communications and wireless energy transfer (WET), and relies on far-field radio-frequency (RF) radiation (microwaves). The practical use of RF WET is fundamentally linked to the receiver’s capability to efficiently harvest and store RF energy in its battery for future use, which facilitates energy harvesting (EH) wireless devices that ensure self-sustainable and virtually perpetual operation of the next generation of communication systems. In addition to self-sustainability, WPCNs could achieve higher throughputs, higher robustness, and increased flexibility compared to their battery-powered counterparts. In order to realize this potential, WPCNs need to be optimized by considering the trade-off between network performance, energy efficiency, and RF energy supply. The workshop aims to present the latest results in the research of wireless powered communications, with an emphasis on the following topics:

  • Optimization of radio frequency energy harvesting communication systems;
  • Resource allocation for wireless powered communication networks;
  • Practical issues and limitations in wireless powered communications;
  • WPCN deployment applications;
